Dinola, Alta "Elaine"
August 28, 1934 - September 23, 2024
Of Johnson City, NY, passed away peacefully at age 90 with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Franklyn (Don) Dinola. Elaine is survived by her sons, Michael (Sandy) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Matthew (Lisa) of Waltham, MA; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Kay Telfer, her sister-in-law, Jane Putrino of Johnson City, NY, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. Elaine was a lifelong advocate for her community. She founded the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter, which continues to serve thousands of families in need, and served as president of the Clarence Historical Society for six years, leaving a lasting legacy in preserving the town's heritage. She also mentored five students of English as a Second Language (ESL), who came to regard her not only as a teacher but as a trusted guide and friend. Elaine supported our military, frequently volunteering for "Boxes for Soldiers" and participating in other VFW activities. Despite her many contributions, Elaine was equally known for her fun-loving spirit. Every Halloween, she delighted her neighbors with her "Trick-or-Highball" tradition, bringing joy and laughter to the holiday. Not one to be held back by age, she crossed ziplining off her bucket list on her 85th birthday. Born a Yankees fan, Elaine later adopted the Buffalo Bills during her 40 years in Clarence, NYGo Bills! Elaine and Don's final residence was at the United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus in Johnson City, NY, where she formed many loving relationships with several residents and staff members. Elaine's greatest joy, however, was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always offering support, wisdom, and love. Her warmth and kindness were felt by everyone fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched. A private service to honor Elaine's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a military organization of your choice, continuing her lifelong mission to help others. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Leon Pucedo Funeral Home.
